Refractive surgery performed by excimer laser

Some surgical forms of treatment exist in order to correct refractive disorders (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and the presbyopia). Several of these disorders may be present in a patient, for example, myopia, astigmatism and presbyopia (difficulty with near vision).

Treatment can be done using Excimer laser, and in more serious cases an intraocular lens can be implanted.

In case of Excimer laser, the techniques are used are PTK (Phototherapeutic Keratectomy) or LASIK ( Laser in Situ Keratomileusis ) procedure, where a microkeratome is associated with the laser. Intraocular lenses can be implanted in cases of pronounced myopia, hyperopia and in the presbyopia treatments, with sufficient safety and satisfactory results.
